Cow Tower Norwich
Description
Originally known as ‘the dungeon’ Cow Tower was previously used as a prison and in some instances inmates were left to starve to death. By 1378 it had lapsed into ruinous condition and was rebuilt as an artillery fort in 1399. Although not part of the original walls it played a key role in defending the city from attack. See Norwich Cathedral in the distance.
