High and Low Bridge - Little Switzerland - Norfolk Broads
Description
Nestled away in the Norfolk Broads is a hidden landscape nicknamed after one of the most mountainous countries in the world. 'Little Switzerland' was created from past chalk workings in the 18th and 19th century when large heaps of earth were piled-up from the chalk pits creating a network of canals and a mountainous style landscape. One infamous survivor of this area’s past is High and Low Bridge. This enchanting structure is slowly beginning to be reclaimed by nature after the landscape was abandoned well over a century ago. The pits closed in 1877 and trees planted created a 'Paradise Plantation'.
